Phyliss Gayle Hodges
March 21, 1946 - March 4, 2022
On March 4, 2022, Phyliss Gayle Hodges entered into the presence of her Lord, who she served for so long, surrounded by her loving family, holding her hands as she took her last breath on this side. Born on March 21, 1946, to Jesse and Amy Davis, Gayle grew up in Okeechobee, where she developed a deep love for the church and music. She met the love of her life, Fred, at church and they were married on November 2, 2002. Together they built a life serving God and others. As the Pastor’s wife of Fort Drum Community Church, Gayle became known as “The First Lady of Fort Drum” where she led and worshipped from the piano. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend and Mentor. She was our safe place. A second mama to so many. The best GiGi ever. Selfless. The one you always knew was in your corner. She was always ready to listen. She loved without reservation. She never judged. A Godly woman of true character, patience, and grace. She loved you enough to call you out when you were wrong; to give words of guidance you didn't always want - but desperately needed to hear. For those who were given the privilege to know her, to love her, and have her in their lives - she will remain forever an exemplar to emulate. A million lifetimes seem so inadequate to express the gratitude and thankfulness for what we’ve been given, for she truly was an “Angel” on earth and now in heaven. Gayle is survived by her beloved husband, Fred Hodges, Jr.; daughters, Toni Beauchamp (Scott Eskind) of Franklin, Tennessee, and Jennifer Howell (Dylan) of Sanford, North Carolina, and stepdaughter Alisha Hodges of Okeechobee; brother, Roger Davis (Dollie) of Okeechobee; sister, Kaye Clark (Joey) of Lavonia, Georgia; “GiGi” to her grandchildren, Lauren Sayles, Billy Sayles, Kendyl Hodges, Colton Howell, Kenley Hodges, and Brynne Howell; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and two great-great nieces. Preceding Gayle in death were her parents, Amy and Jesse Davis. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery at 10 am on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory at Fort Drum Community Church.
