April 17, 1944 - April 19, 2022
Philip “Phil” Joseph Avant At 5:42 p.m., on April 19, 2022, Jesus said, Phil my precious child, you have fought the long fight and now it is time to come home to your mansion in the sky. As Phil was made whole again with two good eyes, two good ears and two brand new kidneys (but Greg’s was the best) our hearts were broken into a million pieces. We know he is already helping with whatever carpentry work heaven needs. Phil was a devoted husband, father, and papa. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy where he received a national defense service medal. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling the world, dancing, hunting, fishing, grilling, and woodworking. He was a resident of Okeechobee, Florida since 1980. Phil was a master carpenter and the owner of Phil Avant Construction for twenty-five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okeechobee, Shrine Club, Lake Okeechobee Airboat Association and Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharlene Avant; his children, Shannon Davis (Albert), of Okeechobee, FL, Eric Avant (Ashley), of Okeechobee, FL, Greg Avant (Mari Kay), of Tallahassee, FL, Amy Proudfoot (Adrian), of Boyd, TX, Seth Louthan (Megan), of Okeechobee, FL, Brooke van Vuuren (Peter), of South Dakota, and Krystal Whittle (Mack) of Okeechobee, FL; grandchildren, John Poe, Brittany, Rylee (Justin), Taylor (Brandon), Cody, Destani, Jessica (John), Layne (Brindin), Laramee (Russell), Jack, Jenna (Jordan), Bryce, Cameron, Jace, Mason, Carli, AJ, Mason, Kate, LaRae and Rayna; great grandchildren, Major, Wylee, Lawson, Baylor, and Ryder; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, family, and many great friends.
