Johnnie (Rhoden) Johns, 84, of the Brighton Seminole Reservation, passed away on February 21, 2022, in Okeechobee Florida. Johnnie (Rhoden) Johns was born in Okeechobee, Florida to John Robert Rhoden and Olivia (King) Rhoden on July 18, 1937. She graduated from Okeechobee High School in 1957, where she met the love of her life, Stanlo Johns, who she married on July 22, 1960. She served the Brighton community as a head start teacher and coordinator for the head start program which started in the late 1960s. After 30 years of service, teaching the Brighton youth she retired in 1997 and began traveling and aided her husband with their cattle operation. Johnnie (Rhoden) Johns was a wife, mother, aunt, friend, and teacher to many generations. She lived a life full of love, hard work, education and will forever be remembered. Johnnie (Rhoden) Johns is preceded in death by her husband, Stanlo Johns; her mother, Olivia (King) Rhoden and father, John Robert Rhoden; her siblings, Mildred (Rhoden) Smith, Dewilda (Rhoden) and Uryah Boney, Milton and Charlotte Rhoden, Marie (Rhoden) and Cecil Hare, Evelyn (Rhoden) and Pat Conerly, Herbert and MaryEllen Rhoden; brothers-in-law, Frank Ishii and Charles Vickers; mother-in-law, Lillian (Johns) Bowers; sisters-in-law, Elsie and Richard Smith and Terry (Johns) Hahn; and brother-in-law, Donald McDuffie. Johnnie is survived by her daughter, Janice Kay (Johns) Braswell (Jay); sons, Stanlo Jeffery Johns (Bettilee) and Todd Christopher Johns, of the Brighton Seminole Reservation; sisters, Dora Helen (Rhoden) Ishii, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Dolores (Smith) Vickers, of Okeechobee, Florida; sister-in-law, Edna (Johns) McDuffie; brothers-in-law, BillyJoe Johns (Tara) and Norman Johns (Debbie); grandchildren, Jade (Joe), Brittany, Jacoby, Deidra, Janaē, Josh, Jaron, and Arrow; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
