John Wayne “Bull” Thomas, 86 Okeechobee – John Wayne “Bull” Thomas died December 29, 2021. He was born July 27, 1935 in Basinger to Floyd and Ruth (Edwards) Thomas. He proudly served our country in the United States Army. A resident of Okeechobee for 86 years, he dedicated 35 years of service to the Okeechobee Sheriff’s Department and retired as Captain. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, bird watching, and was a true Florida cracker and outdoorsman. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Syble Jones and her husband, Billy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonnie Thomas; daughters, Pam Gilliland (John) and Shannon Conrad (Jesse); grandchildren, Nichole (Jamie), Dayle (Greg), Anna (Marvin), Travis (Rebecca), Justin (Rylee), and Tanner; ten great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lou Jones. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Okeechobee. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Okeechobee Fraternal Order of Police, Shop With a Cop.
