Gayle Lynn Estes, 64 Okeechobee – Gayle Lynn Estes lost her battle to complications from ALS December 9, 2020. She was born October 17, 1956 in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri to Barbara and Hurley Simpson. Gayle was the warmest, kindest, and most genuinely loving person to anyone that met her. She was stricken with ALS three years ago and fought valiantly through her illness. She was so strong and inspiring to her family and friends. Gayle was an Army brat but was raised for most of her younger years in Phenix City, Alabama. There she met Johnny Estes and married him in 1976. They made their home and raised their family in Okeechobee. She boasted 44 years of marriage. She retired from Bank of America (previously named Flagship Bank) in Okeechobee before taking on a second career at the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Department. She retired from there in October of 2019. She was truly a beacon of love. Mrs. Estes is survived by her husband, Johnny Estes; mother, Barbara Simpson; children, Keith, Kevin, and Marcella Estes; grandchildren, Colby Chase, Junior, and Nicki Leigh; brothers, Mark and Craig Simpson; and sister, Cheryl Filisko. The family will receive friends for a celebration of life 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2020 at Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home.
