Frances C. Holcomb, 102, of Okeechobee, FL died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, under the loving care of the Okeechobee Health Care Facility. Frances was a U.S. veteran and matriarch who was adored by her family, friends and everyone who knew her. She served in the U.S. Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II from 1945-1948 as a medical technician, based in Panama. She continued her lifelong medical career at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, FL. Frances was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who went by “Mema”. Frances was the youngest of eleven children who were raised in Greer, SC. She is survived by her sons H. Allen Holmes of Hobe Sound, FL and Mike Holmes (Linda) of Okeechobee, FL; granddaughters, Alena Holmes of Chicago, IL, Courtney Adkins (Ryan) of Groveland, FL, Melissa Lee (Jeremy) of Springdale, AR, and Whitney Mouton (Patrick) of Fayetteville, AR; and her five great grandchildren; Bryson and Palmer Adkins, Collin Lee, and Lawson and Deacon Mouton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Frances C. Holcomb Fund for Nursing Excellence and Achievement at the Indian River State College Foundation, 3209 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
